December 2015: Financial Support for the Conversion
As converting the “Fliegerhorst” will involve considerable costs, the municipality intends to secure itself financial support from the urban development program. The town council adopted the respective motion unanimously in December 2015.
There are plans to commission expert opinions on contaminated sites/explosive ordnance, traffic, noise, monument protection, demography/follow-up costs for infrastructure, grey energy, renewable energies, sports facilities as well as a potential analysis regarding trade. In addition, a valuation assessment and an expert opinion to determine the development costs are scheduled. Further costs will incur for experts, public relation activities, an urban planning idea competition and project support.
In the ensuing discussion it became clear, however, that the relocation of the Air Force Officer School to Roth might be delayed beyond 2019. Moreover, it seems unclear how long the initial reception facility for asylum seekers will continue to exist giving rise to the idea of postponing the urban development idea competition. However, Markus Reize of the building authority strongly advised against doing so and the majority agreed.
