• Guideline‑2: Urban Planning

Urban development at the air base is to meet a wide range of needs in terms of infrastructure and social structure and (to avoid traffic in the long run) is to take place with a mixture of different uses (e.g. housing, business, education, leisure) and building densities geared at urban living in mind. In this context, mixed structures permitting a requirement-based development are also to be provided and take into account the principle of a “town of short distances”. The development is to be modelled on the existing town of Fürstenfeldbruck in terms of its scale continuing it in a sustainable way with modern means.

Therefore, innovative planning approaches are to be applied to building areas; “Something new is to be created that has not existed in Fürstenfeldbruck before” but something that complements the existing structures and uses.

The existing listed buildings are to be revived by their adaption to new uses and shall shape the new identity of this quarter of town.

In case of building developments in the neighboring municipalities, an effort is to be made to create a reconciliation of interest, so that no incompatible restraints regarding the development opportunities will arise in the context of the conversion of the air base.
